SOHAR Port and Freezone is a deep-sea port and freezone in the Sultanate of Oman, managed by SOHAR Industrial Port Company (SIPC), a 50:50 joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and the Sultanate of Oman.

Job Description

Marine Operations

  • Act as the Port Authority's representative and ensure that all pilotage is carried out with due regard. Act as liaison officer between the Port Authority and the Ship's Master while on board.
  • Assist in controlling port traffic by advising vessels on entry into the channel and coordinating pilot boarding times. Monitor the efficient operation of radio and electronic equipment to communicate directly with ships or maritime stations to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Coordinate all arrangements for vessels arriving, anchoring, berthing, unberthing, shifting, and departing. Ensure timely completion of pilotage documentation and accurate information provision for charging.
  • Conduct timely observations of port operations, requesting dispatch of tugs, mooring boats, and crew as needed.
  • Provide advice during inclement weather to Ship's Masters regarding suitable anchorage and berthing arrangements, in line with safety standards and port regulations.
  • Accurately allocate berths to vessels according to established guidelines.
  • Initiate emergency responses and support during maritime emergencies and rescue operations to ensure the safety of all resources.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification, Experience & Skills

  • Master Mariner Class 1 certificate with STCW95 compliance, including ARPA, GMDSS, BRM, etc., with knowledge of handling VLOCs (Very Large Ore Carriers).
  • Physically fit for 24/7 duties.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role. Customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical, judgment, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with comprehensive knowledge of navigation, marine law, seamanship, safety, stability, and ship handling.
