About Us

The Majan Council for Foresight, Strategic Affairs, and Energy (formerly the Majan Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, MCREEE) stands out Oman's first think tank uniquely bridging cutting-edge applied research with practical decision-support and project implementation for policymakers and business leaders. Rooted in local expertise and identity, the Majan Council is a proud Omani enterprise based in Muscat, dedicated to leveraging local knowledge and collective decision-support to drive development, advancement, and innovation across the GCC.

As a think tank, the Majan Council implements both for-profit and not-for-profit research and advisory projects for Omani stakeholders, GCC stakeholders, global partners, and civil society. Its core areas span economy, public and foreign policy, and technology—especially energy. The Council also engages in national and international dialogues, contributes to the academic and scientific community, and delivers practical projects on the ground with various partners. In addition, it organises events and discussions for experts, decision-makers, and the broader public.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves a broad and evolving set of responsibilities related to the Council's work on sustainability, energy, and public policy. Actual tasks will depend on project development and institutional priorities. Areas of engagement may include:

Sustainability Strategy and Criteria Development

• Supporting the development of sustainability strategies and studies for publicly owned companies and infrastructure providers.
• Contributing to the definition of sustainability-related criteria and indicators.

Environmental and Renewable Energy Assessments

• Participating in environmental assessments of renewable energy projects, including solar PV, geothermal, and bioenergy.
• Contributing to studies on land use, ecosystems, and environmental impacts of infrastructure and energy deployment.

Energy Efficiency Analysis

• Supporting assessments related to energy efficiency in buildings and industrial applications.

Employment and Skills Analysis

• Analysing workforce requirements and skills development in clean energy and sustainability sectors.
• Contributing to labour market assessments and Omanisation strategies.

Cross-cutting Project Contributions

• Engaging in broader project work including research services, technical and policy reports, presentations, and co-organisation of workshops and events.
• Supporting stakeholder communication, field visits, and proposal development.
• Participating in public speaking activities and contributing to the Council's academic research agenda.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental Studies.
• Experience: Minimum of two years, ideally three or more, of relevant work experience within Oman in the environmental or renewable energy sectors.
• Language: Fluency in Arabic and English is required.

Skills

Required:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word
• Strong analytical and organisational abilities
• Ability to work independently and under deadlines

Recommended:

• Experience producing high-quality visual or graphic materials
• Familiarity with data analysis tools or GIS
• Strong writing and presentation skills

Compensation & Contract

• Salary: Between 700 and 1000 OMR per month, depending on prior experience.
• Contract: Initial contract issued for six months. Based on performance and mutual agreement, the position may be converted into permanent employment.

• Primarily on-site in Muscat, with occasional fieldwork across Oman
