Job Description

We are hiring a Python Software Engineer at any seniority level, who strives for the highest engineering quality, seeks improvements, continuously develops their skills, and applies them at work. This is an exciting opportunity to work with many popular software systems, integration technologies, and open source solutions.

The Commercial Systems unit comprises five engineering teams that collaborate closely with other engineering and business units at Canonical. The services designed, developed, and operated by this unit are central to Canonical's business, with Python playing a key role. We are specifically looking for Python Software Engineers for the Integrations team.

The Integrations team handles automation of SaaS user management and onboarding of new data sources to the data mesh. They develop and operate Python-based solutions to automate SaaS seat management, monitor spending across the application portfolio, and integrate internal and external data sources into the data mesh using open-source ETL tools, enabling data-driven decision-making.

Location

This role is remote, based in the EMEA region.

Role Responsibilities
  1. Develop engineering solutions leveraging Python
  2. Collaborate on technical designs and code reviews
  3. Deploy and operate team-developed services
  4. Mentor and coach junior team members based on seniority
  5. Promote best engineering and organizational practices
Candidate Requirements
  • Strong academic background from high school and university
  • Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of exceeding expectations
  • Experience in Python software development
  • Excellent written and spoken English and presentation skills
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Performance engineering and security expertise
  • Experience with tools like Airbyte, Ranger, Temporal, or Trino
