We are hiring a Software Engineer to develop, test, and release improvements to the Ubuntu Pro client, a command-line tool managing enterprise services, security patching, and more, pre-installed on every Ubuntu system. You will collaborate with the Ubuntu Server team, cloud partners, and other Canonical teams to enhance the Pro client, ensuring quality and stability, and engaging with users to meet their needs.
This role requires strong Python skills, experience in software interoperability across various environments, and familiarity with Ubuntu package management, deb packaging, and system administration. Contributions to open source Python projects are advantageous. Applicants should be passionate about Ubuntu and building reliable, user-friendly tools for a diverse user base, from mission-critical environments to hobbyists.
The role entails:
- Collaborating proactively with a distributed team
- Writing high-quality code with tests for new features
- Debugging issues and fixing bugs
- Reviewing code from peers
- Discussing ideas and exploring solutions
- Working remotely with occasional travel (2-4 weeks/year)
Qualifications include a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science or STEM, extensive Python experience on Linux, and interest/experience in Ubuntu Linux systems administration, CI, Debian packaging, or cloud environments. Open source community engagement is a plus.
