Senior Cloud Reliability Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned technologist to join our Information Systems (IS) team. We're looking for someone with a passion for Linux and a focus on automation-first infrastructure management.

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of the company's IT production services, serving over 60 million users worldwide. As a Senior SRE & Gitops engineer, you'll play a key role in driving operations automation forward, both in private and public clouds.

We utilize open-source infrastructure as code software, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's leading products for software operation automation. You'll define infrastructure as code, improve Canonical products, and collaborate with developers to enhance open-source technologies.

You'll be part of a global team of SREs working together to provide exceptional services to the company, customers, and the Ubuntu community. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving development of automation and Gitops within the team
  • Collaborating with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision
  • Designing and architecting services that IS can offer to the organization
  • Applying experience of IaC to develop infrastructure as code practice within IS
  • Maintaining operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure
  • Developing skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation

We're looking for someone with a modern view on hosting architecture, driven by infrastructure as code across private and public clouds. Experience with Python software development, Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems, and cloud infrastructure management is essential. Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls, as well as affinity with various forms of Linux storage, is also required.

A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is necessary, along with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English. Motivation to troubleshoot from kernel to web level, willingness to learn new things quickly, and flexibility to work in distributed teams are highly valued traits.
