Perioperative Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Perioperative Care Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will provide direct and indirect patient care in the perioperative setting to achieve optimal outcomes.

You will be responsible for facilitating smooth patient care in the surgical setting within the operating room, including performing duties such as scrubbing and circulating responsibilities as delegated by the RN in charge. You will also prepare materials and equipment in the OT based on surgical and surgeon preferences, assist the surgeon and nurses in receiving, transferring, and positioning patients before and after surgery, and assist the surgeon and anesthetist during procedures.

Additionally, you will count all sponges, instruments, needles, and tools; maintain a sterile environment by adhering to procedural guidelines; operate intraoperative C-arm equipment if necessary, under physician guidance; ensure accurate handling and recording of specimens as per the Safe Handling of Specimens policy; and verify sterilization and integrity of sterile packages.

Supporting Anesthesia Care

You will support the smooth conduct of anesthesia care in the operating rooms by setting up, checking, and preparing anesthesia supplies and equipment for cases. You will respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, considering patient age-specific needs from birth to geriatrics, and assist anesthetists with monitoring, induction, extubation, and other procedures such as difficult intubation, regional blocks, cannulation, and administration of anesthesia.

You will also assist in safe and efficient room turnover activities.

Supply and Equipment Management

You will maintain, monitor, order, and follow up on supply levels of medications, store supplies, and special-order items. You will perform daily routine verification and cleaning of equipment to ensure proper functioning prior to surgery, report equipment issues to Biomedical Engineering, maintain an updated Equipment Stock Register, and ensure equipment and resources are used economically and efficiently per manufacturer guidelines.

Patient Safety and Infection Control

You will implement and adhere to International Patient Safety Policies, demonstrate knowledge of and enforce aseptic techniques and infection control practices at all times to ensure safety, act as the infection control liaison for the department, and demonstrate flexibility in duties and on-call responsibilities as assigned.

You will maintain accurate, timely records, respecting patient confidentiality, and document assessments, interventions, and pertinent information in patients' healthcare records promptly and continuously.
