Job Description

We are seeking a skilled software engineer to join our Ubuntu Engineering Server Team. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the distro of the future.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for open source software and a proven track record of contributing to its growth and development. You will be responsible for evaluating contributions from other engineers, fostering a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users, and collaborating with our experienced team to shape the future of Ubuntu.

You will also work on evolving Ubuntu by contributing to various aspects such as package management, dependencies, language runtimes, and toolchains. Your expertise in packaging, containers, and virtualization will enable you to own the maintenance of Ubuntu Server packages.

In addition, you will collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, upstream projects, and commercially supported customers to drive innovation and excellence.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong background in software engineering with a focus on open source development
  • Excellent understanding of Linux operating systems and their ecosystem
  • Experience with packaging, containers, and virtualization
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C/C++, Python, Rust, Go, Ruby, PHP
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git
  • Ability to write detailed test plans and reproducibility steps
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field (or equivalent professional experience)
