Engineering Manager Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to lead our team in delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution to the world.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the future of Ubuntu, have strong leadership skills, and be able to manage a globally distributed team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Management: Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Talent Development: Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • Strategy Definition: Work with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team
  • Expectation Management: Effectively set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
Requirements:
  • Leadership Skills: 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
  • Software Development Knowledge: Knowledgeable and passionate about software development, with a focus on success and the delivery of timely, high-quality software
  • Agile Experience: Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Education: Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Linux Experience: Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred
