Software Engineering Manager - Technical Lead Role

This is a challenging opportunity for a seasoned software engineering manager to lead a distributed team of engineers and drive technical excellence in sustaining engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, leadership experience, and excellent communication skills.

The role entails managing and leading a team of engineers, hiring, coaching, mentoring, providing feedback and career development guidance, managing key performance indicators (KPIs), and supporting timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and other technical solutions. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the very best of Canonical in customer interactions, set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders, advocate and advance modern software development practices, and grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.

  • Technical Leadership: Drive technical excellence and vision in sustaining engineering, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality solutions that meet business needs.
  • Team Management: Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.
  • Customer Interaction: Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills, representing Canonical's values and standards in all interactions.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and sales.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Professional software delivery experience using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
  • Leadership experience displaying ability to organise and prioritise complex problem resolution and bug fixes.
  • Experience with version control systems such as git.
  • Excellent communication skills in the English language, both verbal and written.
