Ship Commander

This role is focused on ensuring the safe operation of vessels and compliance with environmental regulations.

• Ensure the safety of crew, vessel, and environment by taking necessary actions.
• Periodically review the Safety Management System (SMS) and report deficiencies to shore-based management.
• Maintain valid statutory certification.
• Motivate crew to familiarize themselves with SMS requirements and comply with them.
• Coordinate tug operations, provide stores, and ensure readiness for operations.
• Comply with SVITZER health, safety, environment, and security management systems and procedures.
• Familiarize yourself with relevant OH&S, environment, and security regulations associated with tug operations.
• Manage crew discipline, deal with issues as appropriate, and escalate to management when required.
• Supervise and assist with tug maintenance as needed.
• Prepare operational reports where required.
• Participate in safety training, including training of other crew members.
• Induct visitors, employees, and authorized persons into the vessel's operating procedures.
• Participate in operational improvement exercises and liaise with management regarding improved procedures.

• II/2 - Master above 500GT.
• Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1).
• Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship (STCW Code A-VI/4-2).
• Proficiency Survival Craft and Rescue Boat (STCW A-VI/2).
• Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/3).
• Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties A-VI/6.
• Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate.

• Understanding of English language preferred.
• At least 24 months of sea time as a Master.
