The Master is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. This includes maintaining a high level of situational awareness, making informed decisions, and taking corrective action as necessary.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and updating safety management systems, ensuring statutory certification is valid, motivating crew members to comply with safety protocols, and coordinating tug operations.
The Master must also be familiar with relevant health, safety, environmental, and security regulations associated with tug operations. They are responsible for managing crew discipline, dealing with issues appropriately, and escalating matters to shore-based management when required.
This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
