Job Title

Achieve cybersecurity excellence as a senior leader responsible for the design, implementation, and evolution of security practices, techniques, tools, systems, and policies.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Hire and mentor outstanding technical security professionals to foster a high-performing team.
    • Define and maintain Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks, ensuring a unified approach to threat detection and response.
    • Oversee the architecture and design of the Security Operations Center (SOC), driving strategic decisions that enhance security posture.
    • Conduct in-depth analysis and improvement of Canonical's security architecture, identifying areas for optimization and implementing effective solutions.
    • Evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices, staying up-to-date with emerging threats and technologies.
    • Identify, contain, and guide the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
    • Grow the presence and thought leadership of Canonical SecOps through innovative strategies and collaboration with industry peers.
    • Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives, sharing knowledge and expertise to enhance the security of the wider ecosystem.
    • Drive threat modeling, tabletop exercises, and other SecOps practices across Engineering, IS, and Canonical, promoting a culture of security awareness and responsibility.
    • Develop comprehensive learning and development materials for Canonical SecOps, fostering growth and expertise within the team.
    • Publish articles, whitepapers, and conference presentations on cutting-edge security topics, solidifying Canonical's reputation as a thought leader in the field.
    • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for SecOps, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with Security leadership to present information and influence change, driving strategic decision-making that supports the company's overall goals.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • Proven Track Record:
    • Mitigating advanced threat actors and nation-state threats, demonstrating expertise in threat hunting and incident response.
    • Expert technical understanding of SOCs from the ground up, including strategies for logging, firewalls, network segmentation, honeypots, and more.
    • In-depth knowledge of SOC architecture and design, with experience in implementing and operating secure environments.
    • Ability to define, implement, automate, and measure effective incident response playbooks, leveraging automation and orchestration tools.
    • Experience contributing to, and consuming, threat intelligence feeds, staying informed about emerging threats and trends.
    • Strong academic record, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
    • Exceptional leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and driving business outcomes.
    • Excellent written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
