The Head Barista/Team Leader is responsible for leading and inspiring the barista team to deliver exceptional coffee experiences while maintaining the highest standards of quality, consistency, and customer service. This role combines hands-on coffee preparation, team leadership, and operational oversight to ensure smooth daily operations and adherence to the brand's values and vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Coffee Expertise & Quality Control
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of all coffee beverages to meet specialty coffee standards.
- Train and mentor baristas on brewing techniques, latte art, and equipment handling.
- Ensure consistency in taste and quality by conducting regular quality checks and calibrations.
- Innovate and introduce seasonal or signature drinks in collaboration with management.
Team Leadership
- Lead by example in creating a positive and motivating work environment.
- Coordinate with the Store Manager to schedule shifts and allocate tasks among baristas.
- Support team members with problem-solving and provide constructive feedback to enhance performance.
- Facilitate onboarding and continuous training for new and existing baristas.
Customer Engagement
- Foster meaningful customer relationships by providing personalized and friendly service.
- Address customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests professionally and promptly.
- Educate customers on coffee origins, flavor profiles, and brewing methods to enhance their experience.
Operational Oversight
- Manage inventory of coffee beans, supplies, and equipment, ensuring optimal stock levels.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of coffee machines and grinders.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the bar area in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Monitor daily operations and report any issues or challenges to the Store Manager.
Sales & Performance
- Assist in achieving store sales targets through upselling and promotional activities.
- Track barista performance and provide input for evaluations and incentives.
- Contribute ideas for improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualification and Skills:
Education:
- Diploma or equivalent. Certifications in barista skills or coffee brewing are a plus.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a barista in a specialty coffee environment, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of coffee beans, brewing methods, and latte art.
Skills:
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to train, inspire, and lead a diverse team.
- Proficiency in POS systems and basic computer applications.
