Role Overview

Canonical is building a comprehensive automation suite for multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions. The data platform team develops managed solutions across various data technologies, including big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, and SQL engines, similar to Amazon RDS.

We focus on fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems and aim to deliver the world's best automation for managed data platforms. We seek candidates from junior to senior levels interested in Big Data technologies like Kafka and Spark, who are mindful of open-source community dynamics and organizational needs.

Location

This is a globally remote role.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Write high-quality Python code to develop new features.
  • Debug issues and engage with upstream communities.
  • Work with talented engineers and contribute ideas.
  • Participate in internal and external events, with occasional travel.
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in Python software development.
  • Experience with distributed systems like Kafka and Spark.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related fields.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year.
Additional Skills (Optional)
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL database management.
  • Linux systems administration skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms or OpenStack.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes for persistent data services.
