Engineering Manager - Security Standards and Hardening

About the role: As the most widely used Linux distribution, Ubuntu underpins internet security. This role impacts millions of users worldwide, leading security initiatives, developing robust measures, and ensuring Ubuntu's integrity. You will set security standards across open source software, collaborate with industry partners, and guide development teams in security best practices, focusing on cryptographic modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading and developing a team of engineers
  2. Mentoring and providing career guidance
  3. Implementing disciplined engineering processes
  4. Representing your team to stakeholders
  5. Developing and promoting engineering practices
  6. Planning and managing projects
  7. Supporting security compliance efforts (FIPS, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, CRA)

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic record and relevant degrees or alternative pathways
  • Experience with FIPS/Common Criteria, DISA-STIG, CIS benchmarks, and audit tooling
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Passion for security, team development, and continuous learning
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events

Preferred: Linux cryptography libraries knowledge (OpenSSL, GnuTLS).
