Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineering manager to lead our team in delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a globally distributed team of engineers, developing talent through coaching and mentoring, and working with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu.


Our ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers, with a strong track record of growing and developing people. They will also be knowledgeable and passionate about software development, with a focus on success and the delivery of timely, high-quality software.


As an agile development environment requires collaboration and flexibility, our successful applicant will need to work effectively with cross-functional teams, prioritize tasks, and make data-driven decisions.


The role involves overseeing the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family, planning and delivering Ubuntu Server features, and working from home with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Lead and manage a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Experience with modern GNU/Linux distributions (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
