Substation Electrical Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Engineer with a strong background in high-voltage substation construction, testing, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and execute all electrical engineering activities related to HV substation projects (400kV/220kV/132kV).
• Review electrical design drawings, SLDs, and protection schemes for accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of primary and secondary substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, CTs, PTs, control & protection panels, SCADA systems).
• Assist the Resident Engineer as required in accordance with the requirements of the project by regular site visits, inspections etc.
• Conduct routine inspections and quality checks to ensure all construction and installation work meets Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) and Distribution Code standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and utility clients during execution and testing phases.
• Perform functional and pre-commissioning tests on protection relays and control circuits.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations at all times.
• Prepare test reports, commissioning documentation, and as-built drawings.
• Support project planning, progress tracking, and resource management for substation activities.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during testing and energization.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 8 to 12 years of experience in high-voltage substation projects (132kV and above).
• Proven track record in construction, testing, and commissioning of GIS/AIS substations.
• Prior experience working in Oman on major transmission/distribution projects is essential.
• Strong understanding of protection schemes, relay coordination, and control systems.
• Familiar with international and GCC standards (IEC, IEEE, OETC, DCRP).
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and test reports.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with major EPC or utility contractors in the GCC region.
• Hands-on knowledge of testing tools (OMICRON, Megger, CPC, FREJA, etc.).
• Experience with both AIS and GIS substations.
• Valid GCC driving license (preferred).
• OETC Approval and Attested Degree
