VFD/VSD Maintenance Specialised Technician

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role in Sohar for a VFD/VSD Maintenance Specialized Technician. The technician will perform day-to-day duties such as maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs). Responsibilities include conducting preventive maintenance, overseeing the operation and efficiency of industrial equipment, and completing maintenance work to ensure continuous operational capabilities. The role also involves maintaining compliance with safety standards and regulations while delivering high-quality maintenance services.

Further more Vale is expecting from the candidates that:

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of ABB ACS800 drives, including DTC control systems, power modules, and control boards.

• Commission, calibrate, and optimize drives for pelletizing process equipment (feeders, conveyors, fans, balling drums, and indurating machines).

• Integrate drives with PLC and DCS systems (ABB, Siemens, or Allen-Bradley) using industrial communication networks such as Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, or Ethernet/IP.

• Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability.

• Analyze drive and motor performance data to identify process or electrical issues affecting throughput or energy efficiency.

• Support root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and contributes to reliability improvement initiatives.

• Maintain detailed records of configuration parameters, service activities, and system updates.

• Assist in upgrading or retrofitting drive systems as part of plant modernization projects.

• Ensure all work complies with electrical safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company maintenance protocols.

• Collaborate closely with operations, instrumentation, and control teams to ensure smooth plant performance.

**Qualifications

Experience in Equipment Maintenance, Maintenance & Repair, and Industrial Maintenance

• Proficiency in Troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with VFD/VSD systems

• Knowledge and practice of Preventive Maintenance techniques to ensure equipment reliability

• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems and processes

•Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings

• Outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Relevant technical certifications or a diploma/degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

• Experience in the mining, pelletizing, or heavy industrial sectors is an advantage

• Technical Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Industrial Automation, or Mechatronics.

• ABB Drive Certification (ACS800 or equivalent) is highly desirable.

• Minimum 05 years of experience working with VFD systems in heavy industrial environments, preferably in pelletizing, mining, steel, or cement plants.

• Proven expertise in ABB ACS800 drive configuration, fault diagnostics, and power electronics troubleshooting.

• Strong working knowledge of industrial networks and driving communication protocols.

• Familiarity with PLC/DCS integration, control system architecture, and field instrumentation.

• Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical abilities.

• Skilled in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.

• Proficient with ABB Drive Window, Drive Composer, or equivalent diagnostic software.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills across maintenance and production teams.
