Role Objective:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mineral Exploration Database Lead to oversee and manage our mineral exploration database. This role involves organizing, maintaining, and analyzing geological data to support exploration activities and decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geology, data management, and database systems, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Database Management: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive database system for mineral exploration data, including geological, geochemical, geophysical, and drilling information. Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security through regular audits and updates.
  2. Data Validation and Quality Control: Implement and uphold data validation protocols and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  3. Reporting: Analyze geological data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for exploration. Prepare detailed reports, visualizations, and presentations for internal stakeholders and management.
  4. Collaboration: Work closely with exploration teams, geologists, and external laboratories to facilitate data exchange and support exploration initiatives. Integrate data from multiple formats and systems into a unified database.
  5. System Optimization: Collaborate with IT teams to enhance database performance, implement necessary structural changes, and ensure system reliability.
  6. Training and Support: Work closely with geologists, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide data support for exploration projects. Train and assist team members in using the database and data management tools effectively.
  7. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding data management and reporting. Maintain thorough documentation of database structures, processes, and data sources.
  8. Technology and Tools: Stay updated on the latest database technologies and tools relevant to mineral exploration. Recommend and implement improvements to database systems and workflows.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of experience in geological database management within the mining or exploration industry.

Special Skills & Knowledge:

Technical Skills: Proficiency in geological database management systems (e.g. MX Deposit is desired or Acquire and similar), GIS software (e.g. Mapinfo, ArcGIS, Q-GIS), and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with programming languages such as SQL is advantageous.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail and data accuracy.

Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Additional Skills: Understanding of QA/QC principles, experience with server management, and the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
