Drilling Fluids Laboratory Specialist

This role is a crucial part of delivering detailed drilling and completion lab testing and analytical work to support product and system design, project troubleshooting, and performance analysis.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Pilot Testing: Perform pilot testing on drilling and completion fluids on proposed mud program recipes and actual field mud and/or brine samples, when required.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Conduct quality assurance and quality control on products as needed.
  • Maintenance and Calibration: Maintain and calibrate site testing equipment, planning new equipment purchases as necessary.
  • Corrosion Coupon Analysis: Analyze corrosion coupons recovered from the field and provide technical reports.
  • Mud Cake Breaker Formulation: Evaluate and select optimum mud cake breaker formulation using core flow tests.
  • Laboratory Operations: Use PPA/PPT and laser PSD analyzers to design RDF and Low invasion Coring Fluids.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain safe stock levels of laboratory consumables and spare parts for smooth operations.
  • Incident Investigations: Support incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Team Leadership: Ensure laboratory and equipment are well-maintained and organized. Provide mentorship and supervision to DCF Lab operations as required.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Petroleum/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7+ years of experience working in a Drilling Fluids Lab as a Lab Technician or Technical Support Engineer. 10 years of experience is desirable.
  • Technical Competence: Strong experience in drilling fluids design, applications, and performance.
  • API Related Specs: Technical competence to run all Drilling Fluids API related Specs.
  • Independent Work: Independent work in the lab with excellent planning, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel (potential for travel to rig sites, customer facilities, meetings, training, etc.).
