Job Summary

We are seeking a Placement Lead to promote placement opportunities and benefits to students in various media. This role involves managing, updating and promoting the Student Portal with respect to placement opportunities, documentation and application forms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote placement opportunities and benefits to students through diverse media channels including flyers, presentations, documents, video content and online activity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Muscat University students with inquiries about industrial placements and facilitate communication between students and employers.
  • Manage and update the Student Portal to ensure accuracy and consistency of placement information, documentation and application forms.
  • Develop and deliver careers-related modules to prepare students for placement and support them in reflecting on their experiences.
  • Provide guidance and advice to students on the application process, CVs, application forms, interviews and selection tests.
  • Collaborate with work placement tutors to ensure their availability to meet with students or employers when necessary and brief them on placement visits and reporting procedures.
  • Work closely with Faculty Directors to allocate workload to work placement tutors and maintain consistency of approach.
  • Assist companies in selecting candidates, arrange interviews, match job offers to students and ensure mutual satisfaction of firms and students.
  • Plan and schedule activities for the year ahead and future placements, liaise with employers to explain the structure of the placement year and arrange visits to campus for recruitment events.
  • Collect and provide feedback to employers following a placement.
  • Evaluate placement opportunities to ensure they meet quality assurance guidelines, relevant academic subject validation documents and Health and Safety compliance requirements.
  • Monitor the suitability of existing placement opportunities, ensuring that employers are aware of their responsibilities to the student and vice versa.
  • Conduct pre-placement site visits to verify adequate working environments and communicate details of placements to relevant University bodies.
  • Compile and analyze market information, trends and competitor developments to understand and disseminate market intelligence for undergraduate placements across faculties.
  • Guide students with personal and/or academic problems related to their placements and assist students/employers experiencing placement difficulties in liaison with other student support staff as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with academic partner institutions and Faculty Deans/Directors to develop and update placement documentation for the University, students and employers.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student placement records required by the Programme Board of Examiners.
  • Contribute to the preparation of placement brochures and other literature for companies.
  • Update and maintain relevant pages of the university portal, including placement announcements, company information, weekly journal and student placement assessment details.
  • Represent the University at Open Days and engage with potential students and parents.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the line manager.
