The Master is a key role in ensuring the safety, security and well-being of the crew, vessel and environment.

Responsibilities
  • Exercise overriding authority to take necessary actions for the safety and security of the crew, vessel or environment.
  • Review and report on the deficiencies of the safety management system according to procedure.
  • Maintain valid statutory certification.
  • Foster crew familiarity with and compliance to the safety management system.
  • Act as tug manager and coordinate crew attendance, provision of stores and readiness for operations.
  • Comply with health, safety, environment and security management systems and procedures, including cyber security.
  • Be familiar with relevant OH&S, environment and security regulations associated with tug operations and reporting as appropriate.
  • Manage tug crew discipline and escalate issues to management when necessary.
  • Supervise and assist with tug maintenance as required.
  • Prepare operational reports where necessary.
  • Participate in safety training and train other crew members.
  • Induct visitors, employees and authorized personnel into the vessel.
  • Participate in operational improvement exercises and liaise with management regarding improved procedures.
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • II/2 - Master above 500GT.
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1).
  • Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship (STCW Code A-VI/4-2).
  • Proficiency Survival Craft and Rescue Boat (STCW A-VI/2).
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/3).
  • Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties A-VI/6.
  • Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate.
Training and Special Skills Required
  • Understanding of the English language preferred.
  • At least 24 months of sea time as a Master.
