Optimise the Future of Linux Technology

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Linux technology. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative solutions that optimise the performance and efficiency of Ubuntu, the world's most widely used Linux desktop and server.

Working closely with our cross-functional teams, you will collaborate on complex customer engagements, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure seamless integration of Ubuntu with cutting-edge hardware platforms and software stacks.

As a seasoned engineer, you will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions across PC and IoT technologies, leveraging your expertise in Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto) and open source communities to drive success.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Design and implement optimal Ubuntu integrations for latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver exceptional, optimised Ubuntu experiences on their platforms
  • Develop holistic approaches to Ubuntu experience on partner platforms, encompassing technical plans, testing strategies, quality metrics
  • Participate as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge
  • Help customers integrate their apps, SDKs, build device OS images, optimise applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server

What You'll Need:

To succeed in this role, you will require:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM or similar
  • Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto)
  • Experience working with open source communities and licences
  • Experience working with C, C++
  • Ability to work in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation

Preferred Skills:

In addition to the above requirements, it would be beneficial if you also possess:
  • Experience with graphics stacks
  • Good understanding of networking - TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST
  • Basic understanding of security best practices in IoT or server environments
  • Good communication skills, ideally public speaking experience
  • IoT / Embedded experience – from board and SoC, BMCs, bootloaders and firmware to OS, through apps and services
  • Some experience with Docker/OCI containers/K8s
