Cloud Systems Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Cloud Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our cloud partners to optimize Ubuntu for their infrastructure. Your goal will be to ensure a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users across various cloud environments.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our experienced team and contribute to the evolution of Ubuntu Server. You will work on maintaining continuous deployment operations to deliver images to end users, as well as debugging issues on open source code and team-maintained code.

This role requires strong fundamentals in Python and an understanding of package management and dependency resolution. You should also be comfortable setting up test systems in containers or virtual machines and able to describe issues and steps clearly.

In addition to your technical skills, you should be curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable. You should value soft skills and be passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated. You should also be interested in learning Linux distribution packaging and containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker or OCI service containers, LXD system containers, and local virtualization like Virtualbox or QEMU.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluating contributions of other engineers to maintain high-quality software standards
  • Collaborating with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, with upstream projects, and commercially supported customers
  • Working with the Ubuntu Engineering Server team to maintain and package software such as cloud agents, traditional server workloads, and more
