Job Overview

This role is responsible for managing all Distributed Control System (DCS) activities in the field for various projects. The successful candidate will be based in Oman and support UAE remotely.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop signal lists from schematics and relevant documents.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge to create interlocking documents from Main Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs).
  • Oversee field services activity of Substation Automation Systems, including DCS/SCADA, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and Cyber security.
  • Support technical activities for assigned projects (Environmental Health & Safety coordination, site survey, panel integration, FAT validation, site installation, testing, red marking, and system troubleshooting).
  • Conduct tests for digital inputs, controls, measurements, interlocks, IEC61850 Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and SCADA signals.
  • Test SCS functionalities.
  • Perform Network Control Center/Distributed Control Center (NCC/DCC) tests with standard protocols.
  • Inform and report on time to the SCS Engineer-in-Charge.
  • Create As-Built documentation for SCS documents (consoles, data lists, IP address plans, connectivity drawings).
  • Maintain images and backups for PCs installed at the site.
  • Create backups for switches, GPS equipment, and other DCS equipment installed at the site.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, with experience in preparing and presenting reports to multiple stakeholders.
  • Support substation LAN network design, industrial computer configuration, ethernet switch setup, firewall router configuration, and satellite clock setup according to project design.
  • Assist in installing the SCS system at the site (fiber optic layout, PC installation at panels, SCS console wiring, installation, and testing).
  • Prepare and install labels for fiber optics and Ethernet cables.
  • Follow project planning to ensure timely achievement of project milestones as per project schedule.
  • Support field service installation, erection, and commissioning activities at sites.
  • Should have experience in troubleshooting network connectivity at the field.
  • Should possess sufficient knowledge about network protocols in substations.
  • Should have sufficient knowledge of industrial protocols covering IEC61850, DNP3, IEC101/104, ModBUS, etc.
  • Support operations teams to control projects effectively in terms of profitability, planning, and general reporting (internal/external).
  • Coordinate workplace Environmental Health & Safety issues and ensure the availability of suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for technicians, both internal and subcontracted.
  • Possess knowledge of schemes and application of IEDs (e.g., Bay Controllers, Binary Protection Modules, and controllers) in electrical networks, including high-voltage and extra-high voltage systems, and state-of-the-art technologies in substation automation.
  • Awareness of competitor products is advantageous.
  • Possess knowledge on GPG Software is preferable.
  • Possess knowledge about Human-Machine Interface (HMI) designing, preferably using GPG, AVIEW, or Zenon.
