The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) is seeking a Middle School Learning Support Assistant who enjoys working with middle school-aged students to support their learning needs. The position is full-time (8:00-4:00, 5 days per week, 190 days per year). Employment begins in August 2025.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement instructional activities tailored to student needs under the direction of the MS/HS Learning Support Teacher.
  • Meet with the MS/HS Learning Support Teacher to review plans and instructions for services with individuals and groups as requested.
  • Support students with and without special needs in the classroom, under the direction of classroom teachers and learning support staff.
  • Maintain regular communication with the MS Learning Support Teacher regarding student progress and needs.
  • Create, organize, and prepare learning materials and activities as directed.
  • Monitor student progress related to academic goals and behavior plans.
  • Record and report daily observations to the Learning Support Teacher.
  • Support students in developing executive functioning skills, including organization and time management.
  • Ensure students are actively engaged during academic support blocks.
  • Coordinate meetings between the Learning Support teacher and parents as needed
  • Assist with supervision and support during non-instructional times (e.g., transitions, breaks).
  • Attend professional development sessions for training in intervention programs, and deliver 1:1 or small group intervention as needed.

Perform other related student supervision duties as needed.

Position Requirements:

Must Have:

  • Post-secondary School diploma or degree(s)
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to relate to adolescents aged 10 - 13

Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with adolescents and adults

Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience working with middle school-aged children
  • Previous experience or coursework in learning support, special education or multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
  • B.A. in a relevant field
