Commercial Lead Job Description

This is a high-level position that oversees the account management team, ensuring client interactions are professional, responsive, and aligned with company standards.

The successful candidate will provide overall direction for the effective achievement of department objectives through leadership of the account management team. This includes setting individual goals, managing performance, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality service to clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and improving departmental systems, processes, and procedures relating to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Championing the LEAN / Continuous improvement culture within the department.
  • Implementing departmental policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls covering all areas of the department so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
  • Driving knowledge sharing and ensuring consistent documentation practices across the team.
  • The compliance of all relevant quality, health, safety, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the function to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services, and a responsible environmental attitude.
  • Championing the department's digitalization journey.
  • Leveraging technology (CRM, others) to enhance accessibility and responsiveness and improve overall efficiencies.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in business studies, Commercial Management, Logistics, Industrial Management Studies or a related field. They should have a minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in account management, business development, or commercial roles, preferably within the logistics, port, or free zone sectors.

A strong understanding of contract structures, legal compliance, and client-facing documentation standards is essential. Experience in using CRM systems and digital tools to manage customer interactions and performance data is also required.

The role requires a solid understanding of commercial operations, including port and free zone regulations, trade policies, and commercial negotiations. The ability to align client needs with business objectives is crucial, as well as a proven track record in managing strategic client relationships, driving revenue growth, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
