Job Description:

Petroleum Engineering Leadership Role

This leadership position plays a critical role in driving the company's growth strategy by providing technical expertise, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all subsurface functions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead the Sub-Surface Team for Development and Exploration activities
  • Staff Development: Develop and implement Staff Development Plans for all team members
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Provide mentoring and coaching to subsurface professionals
  • Performance Evaluations: Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify training needs
  • Culture Development: Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture
Strategic Planning and Business Development:
  • Annual Business Plan: Prepare the Annual Sub-Surface Business Plan inclusive of all activities and budget requirements
  • Short-term and Long-term Plans: Develop and implement short-term and long-term development and exploration plans
  • New Opportunities Evaluation: Evaluate new exploration opportunities and acquisition targets to support growth strategy
  • Growth Strategy: Contribute to the company's ambitious growth plan with innovative subsurface strategies
  • Results-Driven Growth: Demonstrate ability to turn around results and drive growth in subsurface operations
Technical Operations:
  • Reservoir Studies: Oversee reservoir simulation studies and production forecasting
  • Well Intervention Programs: Lead well intervention programs and work over campaigns
  • Field Development Plans: Develop and update Field Development Plans based on technical and economic considerations
  • Optimal Reservoir Performance: Ensure optimal reservoir performance and production strategies
  • Operational Efficiency: Implement new technologies and innovative approaches to improve operational efficiency
Reporting and Stakeholder Management:
  • Annual Reserves Reporting: Responsible for Annual Reserves reporting in compliance with industry standards
  • Business Plan Presentations: Present and defend business plans and activities to executive leadership and board
  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage relationships with governmental authorities and regulatory bodies
  • Negotiation and Influencing: Maintain a healthy network with other Operators in the country
  • Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry conferences and technical forums
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
  • HSE Standards: Champion and enforce rigorous HSE standards across all subsurface activities
  • Operational Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with company HSE policies and regulatory requirements
  • Safety Awareness: Promote a culture of safety awareness and environmental responsibility
  • HSE Audits: Conduct regular HSE audits and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Incorporating HSE Considerations: Integrate HSE considerations into all subsurface planning and operations
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Integrated Operations: Collaborate with Drilling, Production, and Finance departments to ensure integrated operations
  • Consultant Coordination: Coordinate with external consultants and service providers
  • Management Committee Meetings: Participate in management committee meetings and strategic planning sessions
  • Corporate Decision Making: Contribute to corporate-level decision making processes
  • Knowledge Sharing: Support knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across departments
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or Geology required
Advanced degree in related field preferred
Professional certifications in relevant areas advantageous
Experience:
Minimum 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry
At least 10 years in an Operator environment
Geology background preferred
Demonstrated track record for turning around results and driving growth
Experience in Middle Eastern oil and gas operations preferred
Technical Skills:
Expert knowledge of reservoir engineering principles and practices
Proficiency in production optimization techniques
Strong understanding of exploration methodologies
Familiarity with industry-standard software and digital tools
Experience with digital transformation initiatives in subsurface workflows
Leadership and Management Skills:
Proven ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Effective budget management and resource allocation capabilities
Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Strong negotiation and influencing skills
Cultural sensitivity and international business etiquette
Networking capabilities with industry professionals
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office-based position with occasional field visits
May require travel within Oman and internationally
Standard working hours with flexibility as required by business needs
AGE REQUIREMENT:
Not more than 57 years old
