
Petroleum Engineering Director

As a key member of our senior leadership team, the Petroleum Engineering Manager plays a vital role in driving our ambitious growth strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the entire Sub-Surface Team for both Development and Exploration activities.
This position requires a high degree of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reservoir engineering principles and practices, as well as proficiency in production optimization techniques and exploration methodologies.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage the entire Sub-Surface Team for Development and Exploration activities.
- Develop and implement Staff Development Plans for all team members.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to subsurface professionals.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify training needs.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
- Prepare the Annual Sub-Surface Business Plan inclusive of all activities and budget requirements.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term development and exploration plans.
- Evaluate new exploration opportunities and acquisition targets to support growth strategy.
- Contribute to the company's ambitious growth plan with innovative subsurface strategies.
- Demonstrate ability to turn around results and drive growth in subsurface operations.
- Oversee reservoir simulation studies and production forecasting.
- Lead well intervention programs and work over campaigns.
- Develop and update Field Development Plans based on technical and economic considerations.
- Ensure optimal reservoir performance and production strategies.
- Implement new technologies and innovative approaches to improve operational efficiency.
- Responsible for Annual Reserves reporting in compliance with industry standards.
- Present and defend business plans and activities to executive leadership and board.
- Manage relationships with governmental authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain a healthy network with other Operators in the country.
- Represent the company at industry conferences and technical forums.
- Champion and enforce rigorous HSE standards across all subsurface activities.
- Ensure all operations comply with company HSE policies and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and environmental responsibility.
- Conduct regular HSE audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Integrate HSE considerations into all subsurface planning and operations.
- Collaborate with Drilling, Production, and Finance departments to ensure integrated operations.
- Coordinate with external consultants and service providers.
- Participate in management committee meetings and strategic planning sessions.
- Contribute to corporate-level decision making processes.
- Support knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across departments.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or Geology required.
- Advanced degree in related field preferred.
- Professional certifications in relevant areas advantageous.
- Minimum 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
- At least 10 years in an Operator environment.
- Geology background preferred.
- Demonstrated track record for turning around results and driving growth.
- Experience in Middle Eastern oil and gas operations preferred.
- Expert knowledge of reservoir engineering principles and practices.
- Proficiency in production optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding of exploration methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software and digital tools.
- Experience with digital transformation initiatives in subsurface workflows.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams.
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Effective budget management and resource allocation capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and international business etiquette.
- Networking capabilities with industry professionals.
- Office-based position with occasional field visits.
- May require travel within Oman and internationally.
- Standard working hours with flexibility as required by business needs.
- Not more than 57 years old.
