Senior Electrical Protection Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Protection Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, with a focus on protection systems.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Protection Relay Testing and Maintenance
  • Perform routine testing of existing low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) protection relays and switchgear according to the maintenance strategy.
  • Provide technical support for testing and commissioning of new relays as required.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting
  • Participate in fault diagnosis and troubleshooting activities for protection relays/switchgear.
  • Collaboration and Documentation
  • Collaborate with other engineers and technical staff to implement protection strategies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to protection systems.
  • Training and Development
  • Provide on-the-job training to team members as per plan.
  • System Upgrades and Improvements
  • Participate in the planning and execution of system upgrades and improvements.
  • Schedule testing plans for all relays in the plant as per maintenance strategy and ensure timely execution.
  • Update protection relay setting databases and maintain the latest relay backups on laptops.
  • Culture of Technical Transparency
  • Contribute to establishing a culture of technical transparency through personal involvement and coaching at all levels.

Key Goals:

Minimize mean time to repair failures and maximize mean time between failures of electrical protection equipment.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, with at least 8 years as a protection engineer.
  • Previous experience in power plants is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of electrical safety rules, switching programs, and PTW regulations.
  • Experience in inspection and testing of LV & HV switchgear AIS & GIS.
  • Proficiency with relays & switchgear testing equipment such as CMC356, Fluke power analyzer, and CPC100.
  • Experience testing protection relays & breakers trip units from various manufacturers.
  • Experience with protection coordination software and relay software.
  • Personal Qualities:
  • Good team player with strong communication skills in English.
  • Ability to mentor and coach electrical technicians and engineers in protection relay testing basics.

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of ERP systems and office applications.
