Job Description:
  • Promoting placement opportunities and benefits to students through diverse media channels, including flyers, presentations, documents, videos, and online activities.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for Muscat University students regarding industrial placements and providing support throughout the placement year.
  • Managing, updating, and promoting the Student Portal with regards to placement opportunities, documentation, and application forms.
  • Delivering careers-related modules to prepare students for placements and assist them in reflecting on their experiences. Providing guidance on CVs, application forms, interviews, and selection tests.
  • Advising students on their applications and placement requirements.
  • Collaborating with work placement tutors to ensure their availability for student or employer meetings and briefing them on placement visits, reporting procedures, and any problems or concerns.
  • Working closely with Faculty Directors to allocate workloads to work placement tutors and maintain consistency in approach.
  • Assisting in selecting suitable employers and advising companies on candidate choice, arranging interviews, and matching job offers to students to meet both parties' needs.
  • Scheduling and planning for future placements, liaising with employers to explain the placement year structure, arranging campus visits for recruitment events, and ensuring that employers' needs are met.
  • Collecting and providing feedback to employers following a placement.
  • Evaluating placement opportunities to ensure they meet quality assurance guidelines, relevant academic subject validation documents, and Health and Safety compliance standards.
  • Maintaining long-term relationships with employers, monitoring the suitability of existing placement opportunities, and ensuring employers' awareness of their responsibilities towards students and the university.
  • Conducting pre-placement site visits to guarantee a safe working environment, communicating placement details to relevant university bodies, and administering all other aspects of the activity.
  • Gathering market information, trends, and competitor developments to understand and disseminate market intelligence for undergraduate placements across faculties.
  • Managing and analyzing data related to placement activity, creating reports for internal and external purposes, contributing to external accreditation reports, and participating in accreditation reviews.
  • Providing guidance to students with personal or academic issues related to their placements and assisting students/employers experiencing placement difficulties in collaboration with other student support staff.
  • Working with academic partner institutions, Faculty Deans/Directors, and line managers to develop and update placement documentation for the university, students, and employers.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining detailed student placement records required by the Programme Board of Examiners, keeping attendance records, and monitoring assignment submissions.
  • Contributing to the preparation of placement brochures and other literature for companies.
  • Maintaining relevant pages of the university portal, including placement announcements, company information, weekly journals, and student placement assessment details.
  • Representing the university at Open Days and speaking to potential students and parents.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required by the line manager.
